Waiting for God

This is an excerpt from a message I gave recently and thought I would share it with you all!

Last year, if you remember I talked about obeying God’s command no matter how insecure or afraid you felt. I gave my testimony on how the Lord nudged me along every step of the way in my journey to Romania, in setting up the Ministry afterwards and even recently into becoming a Non Profit. And how looking back I can now see the benefits and blessings of obedience, namely the adoption of my son!

Today, I want to talk to you about something almost opposite of that~ resting in God’s timing and patience in knowing God’s will! For those of you that know me well, you know I am not a patient person! My husband could tell you that! Once my mind is made up or when I am confident in a situation I like to execute with military precision! But sometimes God asks us to sit quietly and watch for his signal.
My children are riding the bus this year and I love to watch as they walk out to the end of the driveway keeping their eyes on the bus driver. They halt when he signals them to stop then proceed to cross and board the bus when he has given them the ok. Even Andrew waits patiently. I watch proudly at this morning routine before the question asks, “Do you do get the ok from God before making decisions?” Sadly the answer is no sometimes.

I Cor. 612 “You say, “I am allowed to do anything”- but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.  And I Cor. 10:23 You say, “I am allowed to do anything”- but not everything is good for you. You say,”I am allowed to do anything”- but not everything is beneficial. Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others.

Within PHFTC there are so many areas we could get involved in and so many needs and I want to help them all! This year we are more organized, have a better giving base and more opportunities than ever. And I find myself straining at the leash to do it all right now! But if I were to do it all now there could be repercussions in other areas. My Children, our foster parenting, Jack’s and my relationship, maybe a relationship with a friend… You know what I mean. We are all pulled in so many directions for “good” causes.

My mother always quoted Romans 12:1,2 to me. “And so dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice- the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him. Don’t copy the behaviors and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Good, acceptable/pleasing and perfect… some of my decisions might be good, some acceptable, but is the decision all three? I will only know that if I am watching the Lord and waiting for his guidance. So my challenge for you is this: Examine your life. Not only is it best to heed the Lord’s prompting in obedience to something but it is also wise to wait for Him to tell you when and where to go. Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

So please pray for The Board and I as we make decisions this year that we would listen to God and be in His perfect will!
